Name: Claire
Murray.
Profession: Pub manager. Formerly
of the Lewes Arms, now at the Gardeners.
Are you local? I was brought
up in Chailey. I’ve moved around a bit since but I’ve
been living in Lewes for 11 years.
Best thing about Lewes? The feeling
of community, which is partially due to the Bonfire spirit.
Worst thing? People moving over
here then complaining about the way we do things.
Favourite pub? The Gardeners.
What’s your poison? Harvey’s
Best. And the occasional Scotch.
Waitrose or Tesco? Waitrose has
the better products though I do go to both.
What do you think about traffic wardens?
Something needed to be done because there were too many cars
in Lewes but the system they have put in place is flawed.
Which Bonfire Society do you go to?
I’m an active and committee member of Commercial Square,
where I live. I’m also a member of Cliffe, and do all
I can to support them.
Which newspaper do you read?
The Independent.
Are you pro or anti the Phoenix development?
There are too many new developments. The Planning Department
needs to stop them all, and we need a moratorium to work out
the future of Lewes.
Favourite Lewes landmark? I love
the way you can see the Downs wherever you go.
How would you spend a perfect Sunday
afternoon? Walking on the Downs with friends.
What cd is in your hifi? Roy
Harper’s HQ. Good early folk-rock.
Lewes would be better if…
It were left alone to be Lewes.
What Lewes really doesn’t need
is… The Phoenix development.
