“Eine Kleine…” or “a little”
is a play on words taken from Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nacht
Musik and is the title of a new mini opera by the Opera Playhouse
which has been written to mark the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s
birth. This is, however, no ordinary opera. It only lasts
four minutes and is performed in the Smallest Opera House
in the World – which is literally a 21’ ex-exhibition
trailer which can be opened up to create a covered stage for
al fresco performances or closed up to form a tiny auditorium
which seats only 12 people per show. Its 'bass' is a twin-axled
trailer, fully equipped with lights, sound, a Green Room and†a
small kitchen. So as Karl Daymond suggests it is “the
shortest opera, in the smallest opera house in the world”
and will feature excerpts from Don Giovanni and The Magic
Flute. Daymond states: “we have mixed a gravitas for
Mozart’s music with childlike humour; Mozart played
with music and that is what we have done too.”
The Opera Playhouse consists of Karl Daymond and Pippa Longworth,
two internationally renowned and respected opera singers.
They have toured with the Smallest Opera House since 2005.
They will perform their 4-minute Mozart at 45-minute intervals
throughout the day on Sunday, 25th June at a fund-raising
event in Offham. Longworth, who lives in Lewes, says “we
hope our pleasure in the music will be infectious; we hope
it is an enjoyable and visceral experience.” Also on
the bill will be the Seaford Silver Band, The Fletching Singers
and The Ska Toons. KA |
