Name: Hugh Harris
Profession: Musician. I’m
the guitarist of the Kooks. (For those not in the know The
Kooks are the Next Big Thing in the indie scene, with one
top ten single ‘Naive’ under their belts and their
latest single ‘She Moves in Her Own Way’ likely
to go just as far).
Are you local: if not how long
have you been here? I’m kind of local. I’ve lived
the second half of my life in Lewes after moving down from
London. It’s my spiritual home. Lewes means more to
me than anywhere else.
Best thing about Lewes? The vibe.
I can’t believe I just used that word! You walk down
the High Street and you meet someone you know. It’s
a very friendly place. It’s very rewarding. You don’t
have to arrange anything, things just happen.
Worst thing about Lewes? That
can be a double-edged sword. Sometimes it can seem very cliquey
and insular. It can be very hard to get away from.
Favourite pub? The Lansdown.
Because it’s got the nicest landlords in the country.
What’s your poison? Magner’s
Cider (he grins, because he’s just been bought one to
bribe him into the interview). I quite like vodka and tonic,
too.
Waitrose or Tesco (or neither)?
Neither. I like independent stores like Bill’s and Richards
the butchers.
