Name: Tanya Laporte
Profession: Shop owner. I’ve just opened Laporte’s Gallery and Takeaway on Friar’s Walk, which is a local corner shop-cum-gallery-cum-coffee bar, selling local, fair trade and organic produce.
Are you local: if not how long have you been here? I was born and bred in Lewes.
Best thing about Lewes? The independent traders and the fact that it’s just a hop skip and a jump from the countryside.
Worst thing about Lewes? The traffic. The by-pass was supposed to relieve it, but it seems to be increasing day by day. I’m surrounded by traffic where I work, and where I live.
Favourite pub? The Lansdown and the Lewes Arms.
What’s your poison? Anything above 5% proof.
Waitrose or Tesco (or neither)? I use both the supermarkets in moderation, I have to be honest. But I also get a veggie box and organic produce, and only use the supermarkets in an emergency when I’ve run out.
What do you think about traffic wardens? They are human beings. Some are nice, and some are not so nice.
Which Bonfire Society do you go to? I used to be a Cliffe regular, but nowadays I either watch it from the riverbank if friends are having a party, or from up on the top of Chapel Hill. It’s great up there, you can see the fireworks from all the societies and there’s a real party atmosphere.
