Barcombe Mills Country
Show
The organisers of the Barcombe Mills Country Show are hoping
for good weather this weekend so that they can improve on
the £3,000 they raised last year for a local cystic
fibrosis charity. Local farmer Poppet Cheal, one of the organisers
told Viva Lewes that “the last two years have been great
events but on both occasions it has rained, last year the
whole of Saturday night was a wash out but we still raised
a lot of money. Each year we choose a local children’s
charity to raise money for, this year all proceeds will go
towards Children with Autism.”
In all likelihood this year’s event will be even better
than before, it is certainly bigger. Local builder, Jason
Winter, the show’s other organiser told Viva Lewes “we
will probably have between 60 and 70 stalls this year selling
a range of crafts and local produce, these will include anything
from hand made walking sticks to organic fruit and veg.”
Also on offer will be a funfair, terrier racing, an exhibition
of military vehicles, stock car racing, Swords of Albion (medieval
fighting knights), vintage steam vehicles, SEVAC (fully working
vintage farm machinery) and tug of war. There will be a hot
air balloon ride at 6pm and live music from local band Flames
from 7.30pm, which will accompany the BBQ and beer festival.
Entry is free, with a £3 charge for all day parking
- the parking will be stewarded by the Lewes Borough Bonfire
Society who will provide the firework show at 10pm. KA |
