Lewes FC Manager Steve
King (continued)
Then there’s Welling, at home on Wednesday evening.
That’s another tough game - we’ve got a tough
start. They were in the running for the play-offs last season
and will be there or thereabouts this time round. They’ll
probably come here with a game plan not to get beaten. They
have a good striker in Danny Kedwell, who scored 20-odd last
season, and Matt Bodkin is a good winger. I’m hoping
to win this game, though again we might have to settle for
a draw. You have to earn the right to win matches, and you
have to work hard at it.
We’ve got a few injuries and suspensions, so the defence
and midfield more or less picks itself. Leon Legg is suspended,
Anthony Storey is injured and Simon Wormull is touch and go.
Paul Kennett misses the first three matches because he’s
away on holiday, something I’m not pleased about. He’s
had a good pre-season, so it’s not the best time to
book a holiday. It’s something I’ll have to deal
with. The only place I have a headache is up front because
we have four good strikers. They’ve all scored pre-season:
Siggy’s got four, Lee Farrell’s got four and Andy
Booth’s got four. Jamie Cade, who’s coming back
from injury, scored a cracker against QPR from a narrow angle.
I can only pick two, and put the other two on the bench. We’ll
be playing a 4-4-2 system, with two wingers. I played this
system in my first year here, and I want to go back to it.
It’s exciting for the fans, and I really want to bring
a buzz back to the place. This is the best team I’ve
put together here. It should be quite a season.” SK
