Artwave Launch
Pelham House are throwing an Artwave launch event with Brighton
gypsy jazz band Belleville providing the music. The band,
heavily influenced by Django Reinhart, are a fivesome featuring
two guitars, a fiddle, a double bass and, best of all, a tuba.
Their music has been likened to ‘a Buster Keaton or
a Harold Lloyd chase’ but we are assured they are a
fine band, who participated in the Lewes Guitar Festival last
year. The sculpture garden will be full of the work of eight
artists, and painter Dan Brennin will be opening an exhibition
of his work. Dan divides his time between gardening and painting
gardens. There’s a Japanesey feel to his artwork.
There will also be a number of craftspeople demonstrating
their trade: some will let you have a go. As this includes
potter Mohammed Hammid, entertainment value here should be
high. You can also have a go at making batik. There will be
spinning and weaving and letter-cutting demonstrations, and
local printer Caroline Trant will be demonstrating the art
of bookmaking. There will also be a gazebo for the kids to
practice their artwork. Circa will be providing a barbeque,
though this will not be included in the ticket price. Pelham
House has a beautiful garden perfect for this sort of event:
in the event of rain, activities will be moved inside to the
Chamber Room. AG |
