While I’m disappointed with a draw in our home game
against Bognor on Monday, a match we were winning with four
minutes to go, I have to admit that it was a fair result.
Both sides had their chances. I wasn’t happy with the
way we played; it’s just not right at the moment. Wilko
made a couple of excellent saves, but we didn’t make
their goalkeeper work enough. We had seven players out with
injury – five of whom would have made the first team
straight away – but I’m not one for excuses. When
Lee Farrell scored, in the 77th minute, I thought we’d
won it. As I’ve said before he’s a great one to
pull off the bench for the last twenty minutes or so. He makes
more of an impact as a sub at the moment than he does when
he starts because he’s fresh, he’s fast and the
opposition don’t know what to expect. Their keeper made
a save from a Steve Robinson header and he twisted his body
well to hit it in off the post. But then we made a mistake
at the back, and they equalised. Lewis Hamilton mistimed his
jump, which let their striker in to score. We can’t
keep conceding goals like that: I know it’s only one
a game, but that’s one too many. You can’t legislate
for that sort of thing. In training you can work on pattern
and shape, but a mistake’s a mistake. How can you work
on mistakes? They just happen: it’s down to the players
not to make them.
