Lewes 2 (Holloway 20, Cade 25)

I had a word with some of the Lewes fans before the game at Thurrock on Monday, telling them I really valued their support. I asked them to stick behind the team, because we’d been going through a bad patch and we needed it. I didn’t know just how bad things were going to get. We started well, and were 2-0 up within half an hour. We were controlling the game: Gary Holloway burst through the middle, made a third man run, and smashed it home. Five minutes later Jamie Cade chested the ball down and volleyed it in from just inside the area. We could have had three and we should have had three. Siggy had a valid goal chalked off. 3-0 and it would have been game over. But it was 2-0, and 2-0 is one of the most dangerous scores to go into half time with. I told them that in the dressing room. You think you’ve won but if the other team get one back they’re right back in it.

Well that’s just what happened. They got one back and we fell apart all over the pitch. After their first we were just hanging on, and our defending was diabolical. We had an extra man in midfield, but instead of the defenders rolling it to him they were just hoofing it forward. Thurrock got another goal, and still kept coming at us.
