(Continued...)
We’ve had loads of interest in him, of course, because
he’s been the best striker in the history of the Conference
South. I know he’s a good player, but I want to see
what his make-up is all about. He scored 35 goals last season,
30 the season before, and 28 before that: we all know he can
do that again this season, and we hope he’ll do it for
us.
I was disappointed in the week by certain things I’d
heard from certain individuals. What a joke. No league is
won or lost in September. Every season has a start, a middle
and an end. We’re only at the start. There’s ages
to go yet, and we’re four points off the play-offs.
Any side in this division gets a little run going and they
shoot up the table: just look at Salisbury, who’ve won
four and they’re right at the top. This is the time
when we need everyone to pull together. The players, the management,
the fans. My players did it for me on Saturday. They gave
everything they’d got. At the end they were out on their
feet. It was a massive step in the right direction.
The FA Cup First Qualifying draw was made on Monday and we
got Hendon away. They’ve not made the best start in
the Isthmian Premier, the league below us, with just two points
so far. I watched them play two weeks ago against Horsham
and they got beat 4-1. They’ve got some good players,
though, and it’s not going to be easy. We’ll treat
them with the utmost respect. There are three games to go
before the first round proper when all the pro clubs come
in. A run would be nice for everyone at the club.
Next game: Saturday September 25th. Sutton (away) |
