Panto - Dick Whittington
auditions
"I just want people with enthusiasm," says
director Meriel Whale who’s casting this weekend for
the Lewes Community Theatre’s first ever panto. "But
as the script will evolve as we go along, let me know if you
can juggle, play an instrument or have any unusual party tricks
– we can make use of everyone’s talents."
The panto will be a production of Dick Whittington, which
seems characteristically tongue-in-cheek of Lewes to put on
a show about someone who famously went to London when so many
Londoners are heading in our direction. Auditions for all
parts - including Dick - are open to absolutely everyone over
the age of seven. ‘We’re a community theatre,
and it’s important we represent the community. So no
matter what age you are, or whether you’ve acted before,
we’d love you to get involved.’ And they don’t
just need principal actors and bit-part players, they also
need costume makers, set designers, raffle organisers, lighting
and sound assistants, ticket sellers, programme designers
and sponsors. ‘If you play a major character, then you’ll
need to be available for rehearsals a couple of times a week,
but if you can only spare a day or two, there are still plenty
of ways of getting involved.’ They would also welcome
an offer of a free rehearsal space.
