With so little time left, you’ve got to get everyone behind the ball in that sort of situation, and have at least five men in the wall. Wilko only put three men in the wall, and positioned himself right behind it, instead of to the side. Everyone was saying what a great goal it was, but you or I could have scored it: their guy only had to place it right, and it was a goal. The keeper really should have done better. And we didn’t have time to react. What a gut-wrencher. Afterwards you could tell from their reactions how happy they were to have won a game they should have lost quite heavily. They were jumping up and down like they’d won the Cup Final and they all ran over to congratulate their keeper. He was on Arsenal’s books, the lad, but they let him go because they thought he wasn’t tall enough. He certainly looked tall enough on Friday.

After the game I had a talk with Wilko, and we agreed to call it a day. It was an amicable agreement: he’s been a brilliant keeper for Lewes but this season hasn’t been so good. He’s been travelling in from Stevanage on his own three times a week - last year he made the journey with a couple of other players - and this has been getting him down. He’s made too many costly mistakes. I’ve signed a replacement - Daniel Crane, on a two month loan with a view to a permanent contract if things go well. Daniel played for two years under Nigel Clough at Burton Albion and comes highly recommended. He moved from there to Football League outfit Rushden and Diamonds. He was unlucky there: he got injured a week before the FA Cup game with Man United and the payer that replaced him did so well he took his place. So he became the number two, and has moved herre so he can get some first team action. I’m very pleased – he has all the makings of a top keeper."
