“After our great performance and result against Dorchester in the 3rd qualifying round of the FA Cup I was really pleased with who we drew in the next round - Crawley away. Not that it’s an easy draw - far from it - but because it should be a cracking game and it should attract a huge gate of up to 4,000 fans. We’re the last two non-league clubs left in Sussex, so it should generate interest throughout the county. Of course we were hoping for a home draw, but playing away again is a double-edged sword. As half the revenue will go to Lewes FC, it will be a massive boost to the club, and our lower capacity would have meant that we wouldn’t have been able to host such a big crowd.

People look at the Conference table, and see Crawley third from bottom, and think they’re in poor form. Far from it. They were deducted 10 points in the close season, and they’ve had to make those up. They’ve won seven games in the league above us - if they’d started on an even playing field they’d have been in the top five or six. So it’ll be a hard game, but we’re a team in form, it’s a local derby, and our players will be right up for it, especially Simon Wormull, Jamie Cade and Ian Simpemba, who all used to play there.

On Saturday we won 4-0 away against a team who were just one point below us in the league, Dorchester, but none of the opposition could have complained if it had gone into double figures. We hit the post and the bar, had a number of clear chances saved, and had a stonewall penalty turned down. Their manager came up afterwards and said we were the best team they’d played this season by miles.
