Waitrose or Tesco (or neither)? It depends on how much work is on. If the money’s coming in I go to Waitrose, if not I join the crowds at Tescos.
Which Bonfire Society do you go to? I just go to the processions then have a private firework display in the garden. Though this year I have to miss it because I’ve got the Archers.
Which newspaper do you read? The Guardian.
Are you pro or anti the Phoenix development? Again, I get the feeling that property development at the end of the day is mainly about making a profit for the developers. I’m not against development per se - we need new housing - but I think we’ve got to be very careful.
Favourite Lewes landmark? Looking up at the castle from the Paddock. A view that might have been destroyed if the Council had gone ahead with the flyover they were planning.
How often do you go to London and Brighton? I take the kids to Brighton a lot, and that has made me like the place again. I only go to London for work: sometimes every day, sometimes never at all.
How would you spend a perfect Sunday afternoon? I’d have spent the morning in bed reading the papers after which I’d go for a long walk in the hills and perhaps a pint in the pub. A lazy day. It used to seem a waste of time. But I never get them any more.
What’s on your hifi? The Juliet Letter by Elvis Costello, one of our finest singer-songwriters. I’m quite a big fan; I saw him in Brighton recently and he was amazing. Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys. Ben Folds Five. Roddy Frame’s last but one LP, The North Star.
Lewes would be better if… They got rid of that awful council building.
What Lewes really doesn’t need is… to be underwater again.
