Name: David Jarman
Profession: Secondhand bookseller. (David runs the bookshop in Pipe Passage).
Are you local: if not how long have you been here? I’m not sure that twenty-three years counts as local.
Best thing about Lewes? It’s easy to escape to London when the smugness of Lewes becomes unbearable (about once a week at present).
Worst thing about Lewes? Extraordinarily comfortably-off people convincing themselves they are not.
Favourite pub? I tend to drink at home these days while taking a stab at helping with the children, but I’m fond of the ‘Sir Charles Napier’ in Brighton.
What’s your poison? I like dark beers like Young’s ‘Winter Warmer’, when available, and bottles of Harvey’s ‘Elizabethan Ale’.
Waitrose or Tesco (or neither)? Waitrose.
What do you think about traffic wardens? I feel rather sorry for them. Some sixth sense tells me that they are not hugely popular and even I can tell that their uniforms are not the epitome of sartorial chic.
Which Bonfire Society do you go to? I don’t belong to, or attend, any particular bonfire society but I always love the processions.
Which newspaper do you read? I am addicted to newsprint in a rather hapless way and tend to read anything I can find at the recycling unit in Greyfriars car park, but I suppose The Guardian if I had to choose one.
