Cinema Round-up

Lewes Cinema have decided to re-screen the controversial movie featuring the former Democrat presidential candidate Al Gore, An Inconvenient Truth (Sun 12th, 4pm, All Saints). The film is a forceful critique of the way the world is run and a powerful kick up the ass to anyone who believes that global warming is not happening, and is not having a profound and potentially devastating effect on the world’s climate. Warning: this film may well make you fundamentally change the way you behave. It will certainly make you switch off the lights when you leave the house.

There is another important re-run this week which we covered in our magazine a couple of weeks ago, Pedro Almodovar’s Volver, on Saturday 11th (6pm) and Sunday 12th (8pm). This is one of the Spanish film-makers most mature works so far, and one in which he returns to his Manchego roots. It’s well worth seeing, especially if you have previously dismissed the maverick director for the tone of his often over-the-top Spanish farces. There is also a matinee performance of the independent computer-animated kids movie Hoodwinked, a remaking of the Little Red Riding Story that aims to please parents as much as kids, but only, according to the bulk of the critics we’ve read, partially succeeds (Sat 11th 2:30pm, Sun 12th 2pm).

Return Cruz: Volver is back at the All Saints
