Waitrose or Tesco (or neither)? (S) Waitrose. It’s more friendly. (T) Tesco’s will decimate the town centre if it gets bigger. Plus a friend of mine spent £100 shopping there and then he loaded it into the car, and went for a cup of tea in their café. When he came out they’d given him a parking ticket. He took his shopping back and demanded his money back, and he hasn’t been again. They said it was a different organisation that did the parking and they couldn’t do anything about it.
What do you think about traffic wardens? (T) Some of them are nice, some of them are little Hitlers. (S) Our four-year-old grandchild says ‘look, the lobsters are coming’.
Are you pro or anti the Phoenix development? (S) It’s worrying and it’s exciting. I wouldn’t like the town centre to move, but I like new buildings. (T) I’d like them to make something out of the river.
Favourite Lewes landmark? (T) The castle. The Barbican. (S) I agree with that. (T) I love the sense of history you get around there, with the Bowling Green and Brack Mound.
How would you spend a perfect Sunday afternoon? (T) Going to a car boot and seeing our family.
What’s on your hifi? (T) I like Ian Dury. If the radio’s on I like old 60’s stuff.
