Lee Farrell pulled one back on 78 minutes with a coolly taken goal after robbing a defender, and then I thought that they’d be in for a desperate last twenty minutes. But within two they’d scored - from another set piece - and we were deflated. Their fourth, a volley from the edge of the area, was a great goal, but in truth the score flattered them. No way did we deserve to go down 4-1. No way. We could have won the game.
I had arranged to have a chat with the ref after the match, and I told him that I thought that he put in a pro-ref performance. He didn’t penalise all those little tugs and shoves which the refs come down hard on in non-league, but let go in the League. That damaged us. And his decision to send Junior Kadi off eight minutes into injury time with ten seconds to go was just ridiculous. He should have blown the final whistle, instead. It was great to have such a big crowd for the game, and the club handled all the off-pitch stuff really well. Now it’s time to concentrate on the league. We’ve got four games out of the next five at home, and it’s important that we take advantage of that and climb up the table. We need to get to the play-offs later on in the season - if we manage it we’ll start to see a few more crowds like the one we saw on Saturday. We were never going to win the FA Cup, but we can still win promotion to the Conference. It’s time to stand and be counted.
Next game: Yeading (home) Saturday 18th November
