Gig - Hummingbird
Described as ‘the Dixie Chicks meets the Indigo Girls with a dash of Crosby, Stills and Nash’, Hummingbird are three female musicians, Amy Wadge, Rosalie Deighton and Edwina Hayes, with a combined thirty years on the road, who banded together over their love of Emmy Lou Harris, a couple of years ago. They chose the name, ‘Hummingbird’ in homage to their idol’s guitar.
They may not have got together at all, though, if media speculation surrounding Wadge had proved true. The honorary Welsh-songstress was once tipped to be in line for replacing Cerys Matthews to front the hit-band Catatonia. It never happened, but ironically she subsequently beat Matthew’s to the title of Welsh Singer of the year in 2003, the second time Wadge had won it after beating Charlotte Church the year before. Rosalie Deighton’s musical career was mapped out from the moment of conception. After an education that started in the womb, (her mother used to play her Emmy-Lou Harris records before she had even been born), her career was launched at the age of four when she played the spoons alongside her siblings in the Deighton Family band.
Hummingbird will be very much at home in the canvas setting at the Anchor Inn, which is fast becoming an essential stopping off point on the Alt/ Country circuit. Promoter Lance assures me that the heat will be on tonight - quite literally. After some initial temperature regulation difficulties, the heater is now working well. ER |
