With half time looming they put in a corner and Danny Crane collected. At this point he should have slowed the game down but he kicked it straight up-field and we had no-one up there. They fed it to their left winger, and he attacked our defender. Instead of showing him the outside our guy showed him the inside. He cut in and hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner. For them it’s a brilliant goal. For me it’s a criminally bad piece of defending.

In the second half, after about fifteen minutes, I look to Cashy and say ‘the next goal’s going to win this’. But I wasn’t sure which team would score it. Their keeper parried a shot, Boothy followed in and from around the penalty spot put it in the bottom corner. 3-2 to us. After that they threw everything at us, kitchen sink and all. But we defended well. They had a few corners on the bounce and a few ricochets in the box that could have gone anywhere, but our keeper didn’t have a save to make. The final whistle was a relief, and then the realisation dawned. Oxford United at home in the next round. Another massive game at the Dripping Pan. I’m over the moon: but it’s important to remember that first we’ve got a couple of league games to concentrate on.
