Are you pro or anti the Phoenix development? Anti, I think. It’s a bit out of character in Lewes to have a development of that scale. We could do with more river access and a cinema, but not with 800 houses attached. And the roads are clogged up enough without another 800 cars.
Favourite Lewes landmark? I love seeing the hills when I’m approaching the town and knowing I’m home again.
How would you spend a perfect Sunday afternoon? A nice walk. I keep some sheep in Barcombe, so I like walking out there. Getting the kids out for a walk is impossible, though. They want to be indoors with their PlayStations.
What cd/record/tape is in your hifi? The last thing I put on was Pink Floyd, or the Beatles. That makes me sound old, doesn’t it? I have Radio 2 on in the shop, and Planet Rock, and I listen to Radio 4 in the morning to digest the news and the cricket. Though the less said about that…
Lewes would be better if… There were more parking spaces. I tend to park in Gundreda Road, but that’s going to be entered into the scheme, too. It’s been really bad for business. It’s put off a lot of the customers I used to get coming in from Brighton and the surrounding villages. A lot of them go to Uckfield now.
What Lewes really doesn’t need is… More big businesses moving into town which will lead to the little shops going down.
