The e-postbag of candidates for picture of the week this week was not exactly bulging, so we’ve had to go for a standby, a picture taken by editor Alex Leith on a trip to Greenland last March. “It was taken from a fishing boat in which we were meandering through the icebergs in Disko Bay,” he says. “I liked the way that the birds were following the boat, which was on its way back to dump its catch in the port of Ilulissat.” We like the way the picture is reminiscent of a certain Hitchcock film, we love the shiny quality of the icebergs close up and we are fascinated at the arm protruding from the boat, which seems to be throwing something to - or at - the birds. Please keep sending your pictures in, wherever or whenever they’ve been taken. We’d particularly like to see semi-retro pictures of Lewes in the 70’s and 80’s. We can scan them if you can send them in: just call us on 01273 488882.
