Folk - Winter Songs

Chris Parkinson has played in some exotic venues that could rival the old charm of the Royal Oak (more on that later). But the folk club has been handpicked as one of just three venues to experience his winter tour. The evening promises a warm helping of winter songs along with folk heroes Pete Morton and Roger Wilson. Parkinson is one of the most experienced folk musicians in the business. His first gig as a harmonica player was 50 years ago, at the tender age of five. He has since turned his hand to the piano, accordion, tin whistle, concertina and guitar. He has played with the likes of Martin McCarthy, Norma Waterson, Ralph McTell and Mike Harding.

Pete Morton has recently released the acclaimed album Flying an Unknown Flag. 'Another Train' has become a contemporary folk classic, covered all over the land. Roger Wilson is a fiddler and guitarist (among other musical accomplishments) and has been gigging since 1986. He’s been called ‘the best all-round acoustic musician in the world’ (and not just by his mum). Together the three make quite a line-up. Expect to be impressed by their musicianship, expect to be moved by the words of their songs, be prepared for a touch of seasonal daftness. And Chris Parkinson’s exotic gig? Recently the supermodel Elle McPherson invited him to play at a private party. The evening was Italian-themed and the guests were made up of McPherson’s close friends. It was in Whitby, mind. DL
