Gig - Tongue and Groove

One of the funniest things I have seen in a while happened at the last Tongue and Groove gig at the All Saints. The band are a scream, mainly because of their lead singer, Phil Rhodes, who puts his all into an extravagant act, posturing, gesturing, loving that mike. He’s wearing glam rock gear, as are all the band, whose tight sound keeps the whole thing together as classic after classic is reeled out, mostly from the sixties and seventies, sometimes more recent: Suffragette City, Pinball Wizard, Vicious, Lust for Life, Champagne Supernova, Purple Haze, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds. The crowd have been asked to dress up glam, too, and about half of them have made the effort. I’m dancing away near the front, singing along, working out a suitable dance, when I see… Merlin the Mayor, dressed in seventies gear, wearing his mayoral gong like a medallion. Brilliant! Why aren’t all mayors like him?

Tongue and Groove are dong a New Year’s Eve bash this year, and this means that they will put even more effort in than normal. They promise hundreds of glitter balls: glitter is the theme of the show. Maybe you have been invited to a party you just can’t miss, to see in the New Year. If you haven’t, and you want a guaranteed explosive entry into 2007, we can definitely recommend this gig. All together now ‘And it’s Hi Ho Silver Lining, Everywhere We Go…’ AL
