Another local tale came from Rottingdean resident Eric Sellars. He served on HMS Petard, a destroyer whose crew were responsible for retrieving a vital Enigma machine and codes from a sinking German U-Boat. Petard also had the distinction of sinking submarines from the navies of Italy and Japan, a unique naval ‘hat trick’.
Sixty Years On is illustrated with some 60 reproductions of the original artwork used for Ministry of Information wartime propaganda posters which were made available for the first time for the book by the National Archives.
