They should have scored, mind: their geezer found himself inside the six-yard box, with the whole goal to aim at, and somehow he managed to put it wide. I wasn’t laughing then - I didn’t dare to - but it makes me chuckle to think back on that one now.

They deserved to win the game on chances, but we so nearly nicked it right at the death. Juke Box chested the ball down to Chris Sharplin, who volleyed it from the edge of the six-yard box onto the crossbar. Onto the crossbar! He couldn’t do that again if he tried a hundred times. Still a point isn’t a bad result at Newport - they’ve got the best home record in the league. We’re the first team to draw there this season, as a matter of fact.

And so we’ve got Eastleigh at home on Saturday. They’ve got a very good team on paper, I can’t believe where they are in the league, fourth from bottom. It’ll be a tough game - they all are in this division - but one we’ll want to win. We should have Wormull and Kenno back for that one, so we’ll be at full strength apart from the absence of Siggy, which is some absence. There are still 51 points to play for and we’ve got to battle hard to make sure we get as many of them as we can. You don’t get handed anything in football, you’ve got to deserve it, but we’ll fight hard to make sure we do.

Next Match:
