Bookswap

I look at the books on my bookshelf, the majority of which have travelled cross continent with me, and I couldn’t bear to part with any one of them. Call me sentimental. But thankfully, this is not true of everyone. This Saturday, from 10:30 to 12:30, the Lewes Children’s Book Group is holding its half–term bookswap at the Lewes Community Café (formerly the Nutty Wizard) in Cliffe High Street.

This is a regular event held on the first Saturday of every half-term holiday. It’s a free event where children can bring along the books they’re ready to part with, trade them for tickets which they can then use to claim books of their choice. No money is exchanged and the only proviso is that the books are in reasonable condition. Most of the books are brought in by children, but some are donated by bookshops and authors. And if you bring in more books than you want to take home, you can keep your tickets for the next half-term bookswap.

Children can sit and read books for the duration of the morning with refreshments available courtesy of the café. I am told this is very exciting as new books arrive all the time and the selection of books to peruse before making a decision can be quite awesome. “As parents aren’t paying for the books, children have free reign to make adventurous choices.” says Sarah Hunter of the Lewes Children’s Book Group.
OK, push me and I’d swap my Hilaire Belloc for Edward Lear. AM
