Still, it was good to see him back on the pitch, eager as ever, and good to see a combination of any sort between our first-choice strike force, who’ve only managed six games together this season. Also, for the first time in a few matches, we were playing with confidence, trying out back-heels and that, which we haven’t seen for four or five games. They scored a good goal to make the score 5-1. A free-kick into the top corner from 35 yards out has to be a good goal, doesn’t it? It left a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth though. There’s always something with this team. When are we going to have a perfect day? Still, I’d have accepted any victory before the game started: if someone had offered me 5-1 I’d have bitten their hand off.

On Wednesday night, (about the time this webmag goes live) we’ll be playing Horsham in the Sussex County Cup. In most counties the Cup doesn’t mean anything, but not in Sussex. It’ll be a big game, with seven or eight hundred fans. It’ll also be my 200th game in charge, something I’m proud of. There aren’t many managers stay in one job so long. After that we’ve got three away games against teams lower than us in the table, Weston, Basingstoke and Dorchester. They’re all difficult games, but they’re all winnable. Our injury crisis is starting to clear a little bit - Kenno played a half and should be fit for Wednesday, and there’ll be a couple back from suspension. It would be nice to start getting a little run going. Another few points in the bag, and our league position might start looking a hell of a lot healthier.
