They would have deserved a win, frankly, but you take what you get. I haven’t given up on the play-offs yet, and I won’t until it’s mathematically impossible. We simply have to get a string of wins together though.
This was our second 1-1 draw in a week, after our Sussex Senior Cup game with Horsham at the Pan last Wednesday. They had a man sent off after half an hour, and you’d have thought that we’d have easily beaten a team from a division below with ten men. But it’s not always that easy: they are a strong team, and they got all their men behind the ball, and tried to hit us on the break. We should have made the match safe on 90 minutes, when Siggy beautifully chested the ball down on the edge of the six yard box, only to blast it past the post. That would have been game set and match. As it was the game went into extra time, and it was them who scored first, a cool finish by Carl Rook in the first period of extra time. Lee Farrell, took the game to a replay with a late equaliser, making no mistake from close in, with time running out. The game was scheduled for Tuesday night. We travelled up in driving rain, and predictably the ref called it off a couple of hours before kick off. This means that we should be able to play the match with a fitter squad as a lot of our injury problems look to be sorting themselves out. It’s an important game for us: make no mistake, we want to retain that trophy.
The replay at Horsham has been rescheduled for Tuesday 6th of March. Next home match v Histon Saturday 10th. On Wednesday 7th March, in the Rooks Bar in the Dripping Pan at 7pm, there will be a Fans’ Forum where supporters are invited to address any questions to Steve King.
