Name: Tom Reeves
Profession: Photographer. I work in a family-run business that’s been going since 1858. We’re coming up to our 150th anniversary in the same premises. We might well open a bottle of champagne or something.
Are you local: if not how long have you been here? I was born and bred in Lewes. A slight lie: I was born in Cuckfield Hospital but lived in Lewes as from a few days old. My great great great granddad moved to Lewes from Kent. He ran a grocer’s in Cliffe in the 1840’s.
Best thing about Lewes? The people. It’s still like a big village so people say hello to each other in the street. Plus its location, near the hills, the sea, the forest and London. And the little-known fact that it’s the centre of the universe.
Favourite pub? I’m a bell-ringer and we go to the Swan afterwards. It’s a great unspoilt local pub.
What’s your poison? Harvey’s. At home I drink red wine. Any sort, though I prefer Old World to New World. I couldn’t tell you why, mind.
Waitrose or Tesco (or neither)? Waitrose by preference but usually Tescos through economic necessity. I don’t like Tescos, Waitrose has a far better atmosphere and better quality food.
What do you think about traffic wardens? They do a difficult job. The parking scheme? Where do I start? It was designed to make money and has nothing to do with helping the people of Lewes out. And it’s enforced with a complete lack of sensitivity.
What did you have for breakfast? Crunchy nut cornflakes. I know how to live. And a cup of tea. Milk no sugar.
