His second was a two-yard tap in from a Jamie Cade cross; his third was a penalty after Juke Box was pulled down in the box. 5-1. Afterwards their manager said he couldn’t believe where we were in the table. That’s what comes of having the whole squad to pick from. There’s competition for every pace on the pitch - I had three in the stands on Saturday. I no longer have to put square pegs in round holes. I no longer had to play centre halves as full-backs. That sort of thing really stopped us from playing our natural game, and bringing the ball out from the back.

Our good form continued in the Sussex Senior Cup three days later when we went up to Horsham for the quarter final replay. It was a tough game, because they’re a good team. It was a right scrap in the first half, and their keeper pulled off three blinding saves, which had me standing up and applauding. In the second half our finishing was absolutely clinical. Bang, chance, goal, Boothy. Bang, chance, goal, Boothy. Chance, Lee Farrell, goal. 3-0. We really showed our class. The best bit was a 15-pass move that Wormy ended off with a volley into the net. Unfortunately it cannoned off the back of one of our players, who was in an offside position. It would have gone in anyway - the keeper was rooted to the spot. But it was disallowed. That’s life. At the other end they only had one real chance. Willo pulled off a blinding save from their left back at 2-0. We’re through to the semi final, against Worthing. The date has yet to be confirmed. Watch this space.

Next home game: Histon, March 10th 3pm
