This week’s picture from the Reeves archive was taken in 1913. “It’s recorded as a crash that happened between Mr Vallence’s car and Mr. Martin’s car,” says Tom Reeves. “My grandfather was called down to officially record it, perhaps for insurance purposes. He’d have taken it with a huge mahogany half-plate camera.” “A lot of people seem to have spilled out of the Lansdown, to look,” he continues. "If you think about the date, you realise a lot of them would have been killed in the war shortly afterwards.” Reeves have an extensive archive of photos in their collection, which you can browse through at 159 High Street where the business has been running for four generations since 1858. If you know anything more about any of the photos we publish, don’t hesitate to contact us.
