On Wednesday morning we went down to Market Lane Garage to meet Charles Style, the director of Angel Properties, who is proposing a massive new development on the industrial site in that area. We are going to interview Mr Style in depth in VL issue 63 to address a number of reservations we have about the plans he has for the area. In the meantime he has invited us to look at the scale model his company has prepared of what he calls ‘the Phoenix Quarter’, and to take some photos of the model for the webmag. We have used one of these for the cover image this week. It’s not the prettiest image we’ve had to start the magazine off, but we are more than just a ‘what’s on’ mag, and we felt it was important to let our readers see what we saw. This is not the space for us to pass judgement: the model, and a number of other artists’ impressions of Mr Style’s plan will be on view in the Town Hall from this Wednesday. We urge anybody who has an interest in the future of the town to go and have a look, so they can decide for themselves what they think.
In the meantime, we are making some additions to Viva Lewes. We are starting a letters page to give readers a chance to air their views on any local issues. Please send your letters (no longer than 350 words please) to info@vivalewes.com. We are hoping this space will become a vital forum for debate on any matters concerning our town and district.
Next week, we are also introducing a directory at the back end of the magazine, listing local businesses, which might be of use to readers, whether they need to unblock a sink or sort out a hip problem. Like any company we must adapt to survive: feel free to write in with any comments about what we are doing and where we are going here at Viva Lewes. Enjoy the week.
