How would you spend a perfect Sunday afternoon? I’m very much a creature of habit, so a perfect Sunday afternoon is a normal Sunday afternoon. After playing football in the morning I need to recover and I do that by attempting to play music with some friends. I’m the singer: we mostly do Bob Dylan and Beatles stuff, and American folk songs. We haven’t progressed very far - we’ve done some gigs at the Six Bells in Chiddingly, but the last one wasn’t a tremendous success.
What film would you recommend to a friend? Performance. It was made in 1968 by Nick Roeg and Donald Cammel. It’s about the clash of cultures between a group of Kray-type gangsters and a bunch of hippies. It stars James Fox, Mick Jagger and Anita Pallenberg. It’s very stylistically innovative, as it you’d expect in 1968.
What did you have for breakfast? Oats with malt and sultanas and milk. And a cup of herbal detox tea. Sometimes I change the malt for molasses.
What is your favourite foreign country? I can’t think of a favourite. I go to Germany quite a lot because my partner is German. I’m learning the language at the moment and it’s exciting to test out what I’ve been practising.
What’s on your hifi? A Bob Dylan LP I put on because of the book I’m reading. Good as I Been to You, from the early 90’s. His voice is atrocious on it, but he’s made some better albums since then.
Are you pro or anti the Phoenix Development? I’d say anti. When I moved here one of the reasons it seemed a good choice was that there was no room for large-scale development in the town centre. I think any development should happen slowly, the way the rest of the town centre has developed. And I can’t see how the development could be added to the town without further risk of flooding.
