The Surrogate Plums, another quality band from the Starfish conveyor belt, are on the bill at a showcase gig at the All Saints..
Names: Ian Angell is on bass/vocals, Barnaby Garcia plays guitar/vocals Sam Miles is on sax/piano and Ollie Pitcher drums.
Describe the band: Funk/Groove style music with a hint of lime. The four of us are at college at the moment and rehearse with Starfish Youth Music. This year we hope to record an EP to help promote ourselves. We love performing and getting people to dance at gigs so we inject a lot of energy into our performances. Our style is usually quite free-form - feeding off the audience’s reaction. It's not unusual for us to just keep jamming onstage if we really get into a groove and are getting a good crowd response. In fact, lots of our songs come out of jamming in rehearsals.
Influences: Jamiroquai, Average White Band, Sly & The Family Stone, Graham Central Station, Cymande and many more...
First gig you went to: Red Hot Chili Peppers/James Brown at Hyde Park.
First gig you played in: Roedean charity gig in November 2005.
First band you professed to hate: Kaiser Chiefs.
Guilty secret: Writing our first ever song, "Follow Me To The Music." Let us never speak of that again. It was not a good song. In any way. At all. Ever.
Fave track of all time: If we have to put just one, then it's got to be "Jungle Boogie" by Kool & The Gang, but there’s an absolute myriad of other awesome tracks out there.
Last live gig you went to: Courtney Pine at the Komedia.

Surrogate Plums: don’t mention their first song. At all. Ever
