I’ve been saying for a while ‘give me my team back and let’s see what we can do.’ Now I’ve got a full squad of players to choose from and we’re flying. On Saturday we beat top-of-the-table Histon 3-1 at the Pan, and we could have won by more.

They complained about our first goal. We got a free kick outside the box, and Boothy took it quickly. It was delicately placed - Boothy’s not known for them - right into the top corner. The keeper got his hands to it, but too late. It was already behind him. We had every right to take the kick quickly. What are we meant to do? Say ‘left a bit, left a bit, right a bit, that’s right, your wall’s perfect, can we take our free kick now?’ Come off it.

Histon’s game plan is fairly basic, but it’s been very effective this season. It’s a percentage game, they play long balls over the top and try to profit from set pieces and long throws into the box. This is how they got their equaliser within a couple of minutes. A big throw from the left, a flick-on, we didn’t mark their big centre half Matt Langston and he hammered it in from three yards. He’s a Lewes-born lad, and he gave it some in his celebrations.

I was furious with certain players, and I let them know that at half time. I gave them a right rollicking. Then I said to the team ‘go out and play your game.’ We did just that. We scored pretty much straight away, through Craig O’Connor. He pounced onto a loose ball and put it in from a few yards out. I was really impressed with him. His work rate is phenomenal, he’s got so much energy, and he keeps the ball up. He’s not the biggest, but sometimes you wouldn’t think it. He’s a right handful. He’s also a great foil for Boothy.

Steve King has got his team back and you can't stop them from scoring
