I’ve been telling the team to work as hard as they can during games. “Work, work, work and your quality will come through,” I’ve been saying. It stands to reason - there’s no doubt that we’ve got the quality throughout the team: if we work as hard as our opponents we’re more than likely to beat them. It’s as simple as that. And I think it was proved in the game against Fisher last Wednesday.

The quality shone through on the half hour. It’d been a good game until then, with good chances at either end. Willo saved us with a brilliant tip-over in the first five minutes, then Boothy hit their crossbar. So far, so even. Then we get a free-kick in our half. Lewis Hamilton hits a 35-yard cross-field ball to Andy Drury, who knocks it on the volley into the path of Craig O’Connor, who thumps it into the net. Another volley. The ball didn’t hit the ground in the whole move! If that had been on Match of the Day… well, it would have been a strong contender for Goal of the Season.

The work ethic really started paying off in the second half. Boothy’s been on fire recently - he can’t stop scoring. But that hasn’t stopped him from running, too. There was one time when he chased an absolute lost cause, and won a throw-in from it, deep in their half. That sort of thing rubs off; that’s the spirit that wins games. It was Boothy, too, who scored the second goal, a powerful header from a corner, which was deflected in off a Fisher defender. After that their keeper’s made three blinders to keep the score down. 2-0 did them a favour. We could have won by a lot more.
