This week’s picture from the Reeves archive was taken in 1908 on what is now Nevill Road. “It is of the Sanger Circus, presumably arriving in town,” says Tom Reeves. "You can see the poster for the troupe on the wall." "It's interesting to see the costumes the circus performers are dressed in," he continues, "and the fact that there is a seemingly tame lion sitting up with them. I'm not sure, but I believe the circus would have been in the land behind the prison. I also think that the one building you can see is the building now used as Eddie's Cafe." Reeves (01273 473 274) have an extensive archive of photos in their collection, which you can browse through at 159 High Street where the business has been running for four generations since 1858. If you know anything more about any of the photos we publish, don’t hesitate to contact us.
