Name: Jean-Michel Sigere. The fans call me ‘Siggy’.
Profession: I’m a footballer. I’m the centre-forward of Lewes FC, though I’ve been injured a lot this season, and I’m not in the first team at the moment. I also work part-time in the White Hart Leisure Centre.
Are you local? If not, how long have you lived here? I was brought up in Martinique, in the Caribbean. I moved to France when I was 18, to play football for Quimper. Then I moved to Bordeaux. I first came to England in 2000, to play for Rushden and Diamonds, after trials at Crewe, Leyton Orient and Halifax. Since then I moved around a lot. I played for Stevenage, Margate, Hornchurch, Weybridge and Gravesend. I finally arrived in Lewes two years ago. I love it here.
What do you like about it? It’s not too busy a place, and I like that. If you need anything you can’t get here you can go to Brighton. The people here are really friendly - they’ve made me feel at home. I spend a lot of time with two friends I have made here, Michelle and Dawn. They have become like family to me here.
What’s your favourite pub? I’m not really a pub person. I might go occasionally to the Rainbow, but not often. I prefer restaurants: I go to The White Hart, and Ask, and Lazatti’s. I used to love going to the Long Room. I was gutted when that place closed. I used to go there for an omelette, and a coffee and a croissant.
What’s your poison? I don’t drink much alcohol. If I do it’ll be a JD. Jack Daniels. I usually have a lemonade and lime.
Waitrose or Tesco (or neither)? I go to both, but usually to Tesco, because I live near there. I live with two other footballers, Lewis Hamilton and Jack Stern.
What do you think about traffic wardens? They don’t bother me. Maybe they can be too strict sometimes, but if you park in the right place, you haven’t got a problem.
