Music - Edoardo Catemario
At the point that I would like to be interviewing the internationally renowned classical guitarist, Edoardo Catemario, he could be in several places, I learn from the artistic director of Westgate Chapel Music Series Paul Gregory. "Well, in the early part of the week he'll be giving a master class at the Royal Academy of Music in London", he says quick fire. "Then he'll be travelling to Manchester to do another master class at the Royal Northern College of Music. After that he'll be coming down to Sussex to give a recital at the Friend's Meeting House as part of the Brighton International guitar weekend." He pauses, "then, of course he'll be coming to Lewes to give a concert at the Westgate Chapel". No wonder I can't get hold of him.
Catemario must be used to the form though. He gave his first solo recital when he was just eleven years old in his native Italy. Since then he has won various national and international competitions including the 'Andres Segovia' guitar competition in Almunecar, and performed all over the world. Reviewers have heralded him as 'a virtuoso guitarist' and an artist 'at the top of his game.' He even has his own private collection of old hand-crafted instruments dating from the late 1800’s, some of which he brings to his live performances. Tonight, Gregory informs me Catemario will be playing from a programme which includes Bach, Mozart and Piazzolla.
