What do you think about traffic wardens? I used to know someone who worked as one and I heard a lot of stories about the horrible way people treated them as they walked down the street. They’re only human beings. I am aware, however, that some of them act like cowboys giving out as many tickets a they can with some enthusiasm.
Which newspaper do you read? About three months ago I quit buying the daily paper and I feel a lot better for it. I felt guilty at first but it was a conscious decision to stop spending so much time hearing about terrible things I could do nothing about. Now I spend more time doing creative things, like print-making, etching, painting and writing. I’ve been doing research into my family and some of them were travelling showmen from the 18th century onwards, so that is influencing my work at the moment.
What’s your favourite local landmark? The view of the War Memorial from my flat. An angel leaping into the sky. And the reflections in the water in the Pells Lake is rather beautiful.
How would you spend a perfect Sunday afternoon?
It would involve playing with my five-year-old niece out-doors. And getting to know my new six-legged room-mate better (that’s a man and his dog).
What did you have for breakfast? A Granny Smith apple, two cups of peppermint tea and a tiny chocolate Easter egg.
Which film would you recommend to a friend? My favourite at the moment is Dead Man by Jim Jarmusch. But I’d recommend anything by Werner Herzog, or the Czech animator Jan Svankmajer.
Are you pro or anti the Phoenix Development? I’m not anti it, but I think local people should be part of the dialogue, and that’s not happening. Having said that I think Lewes needs more affordable housing, and perhaps a permanent cinema…
