Farmers' Market

Fallen Angel are a Sussex-based, family-run microbrewery specialising in natural, locally brewed ‘beers with BIG personalities’, who will be running a stall at this month’s Farmers’ Market. They claim to be ‘the smallest brewery in Sussex’ but brew a surprisingly wide range of beers. They divide their brews into five categories including Heavenly, Devilish, Possessed, Seasonal and intriguingly, Growlers. They also strive to bring you a beer to match both your mood, and, curiously, your pin-up fantasy, with the labels of many of the beers having been exclusively designed by erotic artist Lynn Paula Russell. The beers, which range from light, summery ales to dark, rich and fiendish concoctions, are infused with ingredients such as chilli peppers, Sumatran coffee and spicy orange and coriander, and promise ‘a palate-pleasing taste sensation’. Give them a month, and they will even brew a beer especially for you, whatever ingredients you want included.
Russell’s labels, which adorn many of the bottles, bear more than a passing resemblance to the peaches and cream pin-ups painted by classic cheesecake extraordinaire Gil Elvgren, possessing the same coy, cheekiness and timeless ‘girl-next-door’ charm. Beers with names such as ‘Cowgirl Lite’ (featuring a resplendent hillbilly beaut’) and Kama Sumatra (an Indian couple try out an interesting sex position) are sure to add an instant lift to Fallen Angel’s wide array of different ales, and will almost certainly get those browsing at this weekends farmer’s market hot under the collar, one way or another.
