Name: Jessica Zoob
Profession: I’m an artist. I’ve been painting full time for seven years. Originally I trained as a theatre designer but I stopped that when I had children as I had to be away such a lot. It was a natural progression to move to painting - it’s quite a familiar cross-over.
Are you local? I’m from London but I’ve lived in Lewes for two and a half years. I moved here because of how beautiful it was and also so that my children would be able to go to a good school. And I wanted to be by the sea.
What do you like about Lewes? Well, all of the above. I also love the scale of the place, the fact that you can walk from one end of it to another. And being near the Downs. But the thing that’s really struck me is the people. Lewes is full of amazing people.
What’s your favourite pub? It’s not in Lewes but I love the Golden Galleon in Cuckmere Haven. Especially sitting outside and looking at the views. I don’t really have a local in Lewes though.
What’s your poison? My top favourite I learned at Circa actually - it’s a gin and champagne cocktail.
Waitrose or Tesco? It would have to be Waitrose although I’m a big fan of the little shops. There’s a fantastic butchers near me - Richards - and I like Bona Foodie. Bill's is great of course, too.
What do you think about traffic wardens? I think they’re sexy, especially in their new blue uniforms! Parking wise it’s not the wardens’ fault but it’s just not a good scheme. It’s bad for the High Street shops. If you come to visit Lewes you want to be able to have a look round the shops and have something to eat. If you’ve got your car on a meter you’re going to be rushing so it’s not the same. It should be really cheap .
