Another week, another couple of draws, and the story of our whole season in miniature. We’ve drawn 17 matches this season - nearly half of them - and we should have won most of them. The derby against Bognor on Easter Monday was a case in point. We made the breakthrough on nine minutes through Chris Greatwich. Wormull put a cross in, Boothy back-headed it across goal, and Chris - a Lewes lad - hit it in, after continuing a run he’d made from midfield. Another goal and we’ll have wrapped up the game, another couple and who knows what the score might have been. But we’re lacking that killer instinct. Siggy gets a one-on-one with the keeper, takes the wrong option, tries to go round him, and doesn’t make it. Wormy’s in the same position, tries to put it in the top corner; bends it over the clubhouse. Siggy goes for a diving header, misses the ball. Should have been 4-0 at half time. Dead and buried.

I could see what was coming next. They equalise on 52 minutes, and we end up drawing the match. This division is like that. You’ve got to take your chances when you get them. You’ve got to punish teams when you’re on top. Once you’re 2-0 up, they don’t come back. Sky’s the limit. It’s obviously within us to do that - we have on a number of occasions this season - but we seem to forget it half the time.

Havant at home last Saturday was another example. Siggy scored on 16 minutes, a header after a free-kick was headed across the box by Ian Simpemba. Great to see him back on the score sheet after his first start in ages. You could see what it meant to him. Then we had a number of chances to wrap up the game. Holloway header, Holloway volley, Cadey hits the crossbar. None of them go in. They equalise on 36 minutes, and we end up drawing the game; same old story.
