What sort of business do you think Lewes needs to attract? Some more men’s clothes shops would be much appreciated.
Would a redeveloped Phoenix area be good for the town? We should definitely be making better use of the river, and some redevelopment in that area is clearly required. However, before any development is actually done, we need to have clearer answers on how the infrastructure of the town (ie provision of roads, car parks schools, doctors etc) is going to be expanded to cope.
What do you think about the idea of pedestrianising the centre of Lewes? I think it would definitely work in the Cliffe. It’s easy to imagine a continental style open area for the cafes pubs and restaurants to spill out on to. However, I wouldn’t do much more - you’ve only got to visit Burgess Hill or Newhaven, to see how a badly planned pedestrianisation can kill off an area.
Could you do anything to make your business greener? We always use sustainable materials if at all possible. We also use a lot of reclaimed timber, which has the added benefit of retaining character in older buildings.
Any expansion plans? We will shortly be expanding our interiors and design business, and will hopefully have a new showroom opening in Lewes town centre in the near future.
Is there anything you always get asked? “How long will it take?”
