This week’s picture from Reeves is another one from the 1960 flood. Or just after the flood, to be exact - you can see from the expressions on the characters’ faces that they are in the flush of good cheer that follows the subsidence of the floodwater. The chap on the left of picture, in the wellies and apron, looks particularly relieved. Note the (still wooden) Harveys barrels rescued from the deluge; notice the ladder in the window of the house; notice how the older men in the middle of the shot are still in the hat era. Reeves have an extensive archive of photos in their collection, which you can browse through at 159 High Street where the business has been running for four generations since 1858. If you know anything more about any of the photos we publish, don’t hesitate to contact us.
