Name: Paul Myles
Profession: I’ve found out recently it’s called a portfolio career. I’m a part-time academic taking a DPhil in Psychology. I project manage a small property development company. I’m project managing putting access lifts into the Town Hall. And I’m the MD of Sculpture Exhibitions Ltd, which is bringing the David Nash exhibition to town in May (before that I was MD of SculptureCo, which organised the Rodin, Henry Moore and Anthony Caro shows).
Are you local? Yes. I was brought up in Landport until I was 16. Apart from eight years in Ringmer, I’ve lived in Lewes all my life. I got my first job here: I was one of the last apprentices to come out of the Phoenix Ironworks.
What’s your favourite pub? If I went to pubs I’d go to the Arms. I hope everything resolves itself there, so everyone can go back. I used to go there for the people, rather than anything else.
What’s your poison? Any bottled beer made with golden hops.
Waitrose or Tesco? Tesco for everyday stuff, Waitrose for meat.
What do you think about traffic wardens? It’s an odd question. They’re people doing their job. We didn’t need that scheme. We only used to have one traffic warden: all we needed was two or three. And it shouldn’t have been outsourced. It’s another form of stealth tax.
Which newspaper do you read? The Guardian in the week, the Observer on a Sunday and the Independent on a Saturday. I like The Information for a good condensed take on the arts.
What’s your favourite Lewes landmark? Looking up at the castle from Grange Gardens. I love the elevation and the fact you can see that Lewes is a stacked Medieval town.

born-and-bred Lewesians’
