How would you spend a perfect Sunday afternoon? Relaxing after breaking up a set at Lewes Theatre, where I’m the set manager. It takes five to six weeks to build and you destroy it in two hours. It’s very satisfying.
What did you have for breakfast? Porridge oats with a bit of muesli mixed in. A blackberry and blueberry smoothie. Redbush tea, milk no sugar.
What movie would you recommend to a friend? Lately it’s got to be Happy Feet. It had an important eco message and Robin Williams’ quick-fire wit makes it require a second viewing to get it all.
Are you pro or anti the Phoenix Development? I’m pro and I was pro when Lap Chan came up with a scheme four or five years ago. He didn’t own the land, but Charles Style does own a substantial amount of it so it looks like game on. It’s a bit of brownsite which intervenes more or less into the heart of a County Town. Lewes has changed from an industrial town into a service town and I think if we don’t recognise those changes we’ll be left behind towns like Haywards Heath and Tonbridge Wells in terms of attracting commerce. Another thing I’ve noticed is that people I know who have lived here all their lives have always welcomed new people to the town. I think many of the most vociferous anti Phoenix protesters are newcomers who don’t share the same sense of hospitality.
What Lewes needs like a hole in the head is: Insurgency. People who are not our locally elected representatives taking over the place.
