On Saturday we comfortably beat Hayes 2-0 at the Pan with two good goals from Jean Michel Sigere. By his standards Siggy’s had a bad season, due to injury and illness, and though he’s not yet back to full sharpness, against Hayes he showed exactly what he can do. We’ve been holding him back until we’ve thought that he was right physically. He’s right now, so we’ve let him off the leash. And he’s responded, with three goals in three games.

We should have had a penalty in the first minute, when Gary Holloway was sandwiched in the box by two players, and the ref played on. Gary had an exceptional game, even though they were kicking lumps out of him all afternoon. One of their players went off injured after trying to kick him, and the guy who replaced him carried on doing the same. Didn’t stop Gary. Great player.

The match turned into a bit of a deadlock until the 31st minute, when Siggy got his first chance. He took it, like a good striker should, getting the ball out of his feet with his first touch, giving the goalkeeper the eyes, and putting the ball in the opposite corner. You could see what the goal meant to him, as he gave it some in his celebration. The lads told me they call that the B1 celebration, I don’t know why.
