Gigs at a Glance

If you’re a fan of live music, then there’s plenty to keep you occupied this coming weekend, with five bands playing at four of the town’s pubs. And the best bit? - All the gigs are free

First up on Friday night it's female acoustic duo Miss Jones. We understand that they will be performing a covers set including hits from the 60’s through to today. If this is your bag, head to the John Harvey Tavern for 9pm.

Saturday night brings four vastly differing bands to town. Down at the end of South St at the Snowdrop, Celtic folk duo Band Of Two will be performing their upbeat set, on a variety of traditional acoustic instruments including guitars, fiddle, tenor banjo and mandolin. Expect a couple of 45-minute sets starting at 9pm. At the other end of both the town and the musical spectrum, David Bowie tribute band Diamond Dogs will doing their sound-a-like thing at the Pelham Arms. Spandex and glitter a-plenty in a Saturday night glam fest.

Last but not least, one of Viva’s favourite bands, the illustrious Turning Green are in town at the Lansdown Arms. It’s almost pointless trying to predict what they’ll play, so be prepared for an eclectic set ranging from blues and rock through to skanking ska. Accompanying them tonight are drummer Sam Walker’s own band The Endorphins. Expect another bout of musical madness from a band who claim their myriad of musical influences are summed up by describing themselves as a Twix. Nice work fellas…. NW

Drummer Sam Walker turns red.
